Professional Service Coordinator Comprehensive Exam

The Comprehensive Exam will be given during 2008 in North Conway, New Hampshire; San Antonio, Texas; Columbus, Ohio; the San Francisco Bay Area in California; and Washington DC during the AASC National Conference.  Additional sites are being arranged and will be announced on this site as they are finalized. The comprehensive exam is required to receive the Professional Service Coordinator (PSC) designation from the American Association of Service Coordinators.

All certificate candidates must possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree or five years of experience in social services or a related field. Those who do not possess a bachelor's degree must submit a resume and documentation of minimum of five years of paid employment in social services or a related health care field on behalf of older adults and/or families (i.e., serving clients and fulfilling the needs of the population served). Experience in social services or a related health care field includes, but is not limited to, case management, senior activities programming, long-term care, health and wellness programming, adult and/or child day care programming. AASC has the option to determine whether the experience is eligible.

The exam fee is $175 for AASC members ($225 for non-members), and all candidates must have successfully completed eight (8) core and six (6) elective on-line program modules at least one month prior to taking the Exam. Submission of proof of your highest level of education (high school diploma, some college, Bachelor's degree, or higher) is also required when registering for the examination session.

Note: All candidates must be members of the American Association of Service Coordinators prior to receiving the Professional Service Coordinator designation from AASC.

STEP-BY-STEP COMPREHENSIVE EXAM REGISTRATION GUIDELINES:

Note: Registering for the Comprehensive Exam is accomplished by following these six steps. This is a separate registration and payment process from the AASC National Conference or any other Association event.

Step 1: Successfully complete the eight core modules and six elective modules at least one month prior to sitting for the Exam.

Step 2: Review the Examination Guidelines.

Step 3: Indicate when you plan to take the Exam by Registering Your Interest, and printing the Comprehensive Exam Registration Form (which is displayed at the end of the process).

Step 4: Complete and mail the Exam Registration Form you print off to Ohio State as indicated (at the bottom of the form), with proof of your highest level of education, prior to the due date for your exam session

Step 5: Pay the Comprehensive Exam Fee either by check or credit card if the fee was not paid in advance. Credit card payments can be made from your personal home page by logging in at http://aasc.osu.edu as you've done when you completed the modules.

Step 6: Review the Study Guide in preparation for the Exam.

The designation of Professional Service Coordinator will be granted by the American Association of Service Coordinators to all successful candidates who complete all program requirements. Candidates will be recognized at a ceremony at the AASC National Conference.
