Comprehensive Examination Guidelines

All Comprehensive Examination candidates are required to have successfully completed the twelve (12) core modules at least 30 days prior to sitting for the Comprehensive Exam. Additionally:

1. Provide proof of prior completion (at least 30 days prior to taking the exam) of either:

  • SC101: Fundamentals of Service Coordination completion, version 2016.  If you have not yet started the SC101 modules, you must take the new Service Coordinator Fundamentals (SCF) modules listed below. If you have already started the SC101 series, please contact AASC directly to determine if the modules will still meet the requirement for taking the PSC examination.

OR

  • Service Coordinator Fundamentals (SCF) - This new series of modules will be released in summer, 2021. Please contact AASC directly for more information about the SCF modules.

2. Provide proof of either:

  • A minimum of two years of experience as a Service Coordinator, or two years equivalent work in social services or a related healthcare field on behalf of older adults and/or families; or two years property management experience with responsibility for assisting residents with service acquisition; or in any field with supervisory and/or customer service experience. Candidates must upload a resume and documentation of qualifying experience to their account page under Your Documents.  AASC has the option to determine whether the experience is eligible.
  • The educational equivalent includes an Associate's, Bachelor's, or another advanced degree in social services or a related health care field. Candidates must upload a copy of their degree or a copy of their transcript that clearly indicates the degree was awarded.

3. The exam fee of $200.00 (AASC Members) or $275 (Non-Members) must be paid before taking the exam. Please check Your Account page and Your Orders to confirm if payment was made previously.  If you purchased the bundled package, the exam fee is included in the $450.00 package.

4. Be sure to bring state or federal-issued identification to the testing site.  The ID must match the name on your AASC account. 

  • Candidates may take up to two hours to complete the examination unless special accommodations have been arranged in advance.
  • Those who have special testing needs (more time, reader, etc.) will receive accommodations as needed. Candidates needing accommodations should email aging@osu.edu or call 614-293-4815 at least four (4) weeks before the testing date.  Additional fees may apply for accommodations for the online exam.   
  • The exam is based on the 12 core modules of the Professional Service Coordinator Program, and all program participants are given ongoing access to the online modules for review purposes before taking the Exam.
