Step-By-Step Comprehensive Exam Registration Guidelines

FOR CANDIDATES TAKING THE COMPREHENSIVE EXAM ONLINE AT AN IN-PERSON TESTING SITE

Step 1: Successfully complete the twelve core PSC modules and AASC SC modules at least 30 days before sitting for the exam.

Step 2: Review the Examination Guidelines.

Step 3: Indicate that you plan to take the exam online by Registering Your Interest at least five business days in advance.

Step 4: Upload the following documentation to your account home page on this site.

  •  Provide proof of prior completion (at least 30 days before taking the exam) of:

    • AASC's Service Coordinator Foundations (SCF) Modules- This training is a pre-requisite to the PSC program.  Effective January 1, 2022, participants are required to complete all six modules before completing the PSC modules. Please contact AASC directly for more information about the SCF modules.
  • Provide proof of either:
    • A minimum of two years of experience as a Service Coordinator; or two years equivalent work in social services or a related health care field on behalf of older adults and/or families; or two years property management experience with responsibility for assisting residents with service acquisition; or in any field with supervisory and/or customer service experience. Candidates must submit a resume and documentation of qualifying experience.  AASC has the option to determine whether the experience is eligible.

    • Exam candidates who hold an Associate's, Bachelor's, or another advanced degree in social services or a related health care field may count that degree as 2 years of employment experience and may sit for the Comprehensive Exam after providing proof of the degree (transcript, copy of diploma, or letter from the institution).

Step 5: Pay the Comprehensive Exam Fee if a balance is due. Payments by check (payable to The Ohio State University) or credit card can be made on Your Account page.  If paying by check, an invoice will be generated and available for download. NOTE:  You are responsible for the applicable testing site fees (which typically range from $25-$40 for a two-hour session).

Step 6:  Identify the most convenient testing site offered by the National College Testing Association and contact them directly to make arrangements to take the online exam at their facility.  A proctoring fee will be required.  (This fee is paid directly to the testing center and is separate from the examination fee paid to OSU).  Most colleges and universities also have a testing center that provides proctoring services for a fee. Please contact them directly to make the necessary arrangements.

Please note:  Be sure to tell the testing site staff that your program is from The Ohio State University and make sure the site administers "web-based testing."  It might help print this description of the PSC program and Exam to share with the testing site.  You may also check with local colleges or universities within your community to see if they offer testing/proctoring services; make sure the identified testing center provides proctoring services and, if possible, private testing rooms.

  • Ask for a contact person/name and email address at the testing center.
  • Please send an email to aging@osu.edu, The Ohio State University Office of Geriatrics and Interprofessional Aging Studies, to share the testing site's location, the contact person's name, email address, and the date/time of your scheduled Exam.
  • A confirmation email with Exam day instructions will be sent to you, and a separate email with instructions for the proctor will be sent to the contact person at your testing location.
  • When you arrive at the testing site, the contact person will have a unique pin number (supplied by Ohio State) that will allow you to complete your Exam online.  IMPORTANT -- More about what you can expect.
  • Be sure to bring state or federal-issued photo identification to the testing site.  The name on your ID must match the name on your AASC account.
  • Questions?  Call 614-293-4815 or email aging@osu.edu

Step 7: Review the Study Tips in preparation for the Exam.

Note:  All PSCs are required to renew their PSC designation. The PSC Renewal Program requires that PSCs participate in professional development activities and submit evidence of these activities periodically. Meeting these requirements promptly is mandatory to maintain the PSC designation. To retain PSC designations, AASC requires all PSCs to renew every three years by accumulating 36 hours of continuing education.  The PSC Renewal is offered to ensure that Professional Service Coordinators (PSCs) maintain the highest professional standards and enhance their continued competence. For more information about the PSC Renewal, visit the Program Requirements page.
